Cleaning Tips For Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

Polyaspartic (PASP) floor coating is an excellent option for floor resurfacing applications due to its excellent adhesive properties, low cost, environmental friendliness, ease of application, and clean-up.

Despite these advantages, Arizona polyaspartic floor coatings still need proper maintenance to avoid the accumulation of water from foot traffic or humidity in the environment.

So, how can you take care of a new polyaspartic floor after installation? Learn more in this article.

Cleaning Tips For Polyaspartic Floor Coatings

How Long Should I Stay Off My Polyaspartic Coating After Installed?

We usually suggest avoiding walking on a Polyaspartic new coating for around 4-6 hours. Nevertheless, you should wait for at least 12 hours before moving medium-weight objects onto their surface, including boxes or furniture.

You should not move anything heavy for 24 hours onto the coated surface either (toolboxes, vehicles, etc.)

How To Avoid Dirt & Grime After Your Polyaspartic Coating Installation

Polyaspartic coating is easy to maintain compared to epoxy or other materials. However, this plastic-like coating still needs regular cleaning to maximize its durability.

These types of coatings normally last from 10 to 30 years, but the lifespan can vary depending on foot traffic, the strength of foundations, the weight of the items it supports, etc.

We suggest you follow these maintenance tips to keep your polyaspartic flooring in good condition:

  • Don’t worry if you smell something strong the first 12-24 hours after installation; that means the floor is drying. The warmer the temperatures, the faster Arizona polyaspartic floor coatings will dry.
  • Open the garage to release the fumes for 30 minutes.
  • Avoid walking on the floor while it dries because it will not be ready for foot traffic.
  • Keep your floor free from dirt with regular sweeping and vacuuming using a cleaner with a soft brush.
  • Do spot cleaning if necessary. Vacuum or sweep any spill you see on the surface. This type of coating is water-resistant, but not permanently impermeable, so it still needs immediate cleaning whenever there’s liquid over the surface.
  • You only need simple vacuuming and sweeping to keep your polyaspartic floors clean. You don’t need cleaning agents all the time unless your polyaspartic floor is heavily soiled. Plus, using soap-based or acid cleaners can cause damage by leaving residues over time. These residues may cause your floor to lose its shine and become slippery when wet.
  • You can clean heavily-soiled floors with a water-and-ammonia solution. Prepare the solution by mixing three to four ounces of ammonia in a gallon of hot water. Then, apply it to the affected area with a microfiber mop. Use this method once every two months.
  • Be gentle when cleaning your coatings, especially when getting rid of stains and spills. Though Arizona polyaspartic floor coatings are chemical-resistant, you must clean spills or stains as soon as possible to avoid worse damage.
  • To extend the life of your flooring, use protective mats in the areas where you know there will be high foot traffic. You can also use plywood underneath heavy objects to avoid causing more damage to the floor.
  • Remember to recoat your polyaspartic coating every few years. You know you will have to do it once it loses its shine.

Debris and dirt buildup are unavoidable. Both components build on the floor over time, leading to abrasive damage to the underlying coating. You must remove dirt, sand, and other debris to limit damage to the floor. By sweeping with a nylon brush once in a while, you’ll be doing a great job and limiting dirt.

What To Consider After Your Coating Installation

As we previously mentioned, do not use household soap or acid cleaners. They leave a film on the surface that can affect your floor’s shine, making it dull over time. Plus, this residue is hard to remove with simple things like water. Worse yet, it can become slippery when wet, leading to accidents. Not to mention that slippery floors attract debris more often.

Arizona polyaspartic floor coatings do not need citrus-based or stripping cleaners either. We insist on avoiding them because they can damage the floor due to their corrosive nature.

Clean your polyaspartic coating with a simple mixture of a pH-neutral cleaner (specially made for polyaspartic applications) diluted with water if necessary.

How To Clean The Polyaspartic Floor Coating After Installation

  1. Sweep the floor with a soft-bristled broom to remove dirt.
  2. Dilute the pH-neutral cleaner as indicated.
  3. Rinse the floor with clean water and use a squeegee or wet vacuum.
  4. You may need a second rising to remove excess residue.
  5. Allow the floor to dry before using it again.
